A hurried commuter stopped on the crowded metro stairs when they noticed a strange, pink figure resting on a dirty tarp. This hairless dog was completely exhausted and quietly watching hundreds of people walk right past her.
I wondered how many days she had spent sleeping on cold concrete while surviving on discarded trash.

A Desperate Game of Hide and Seek Near the Fast Food Restaurant
When I got the urgent message about her, my heart simply sank into my chest. “She is eating trash off the streets and sleeping by the metro,” I sadly told my rescue volunteers.
My brave volunteer, Arturo, rushed over there immediately to try and bring her to safety. Unfortunately, the sun went down quickly, and the frightened dog disappeared near a local Jack In The Box drive-thru.
I arrived early the very next morning with a car full of humane traps. I quietly set up the food, hoping the delicious smell would lure her out of the shadows.
She slowly walked up to the cages several times with a deeply hungry look in her eyes. However, hurried pedestrians kept showing up and scaring her back across the dangerous, busy street.
She almost got hit by speeding cars so many times while running away from us in absolute terror.
A Small Yard Becomes the Gateway to a Beautiful New Life
Hours passed by, and I honestly felt like giving up for the entire night. I literally prayed to God and decided to drive by the fast-food restaurant just one more time.
“It was a total miracle to suddenly see her walking so slowly and tiredly,” I whispered to myself. I immediately watched her wander into a quiet residential yard and knew I had to act fast.
I grabbed my trusty baby gates and completely blocked off all the escape routes from the yard. The unsuspecting homeowner kindly helped me corner the exhausted pup into my safe, warm trap.
The moment she stepped inside, she literally started falling asleep right there on the soft blankets.
She finally knew her lonely, bad days on the concrete stairs were completely behind her. I drove her straight to our veterinary clinic to figure out why she looked so painful.
Healing the Deepest Scars with Gentle Hands and Warm Sweaters
The medical team gently examined her frail body to understand what had stolen her beautiful fur. Our vet quickly diagnosed her with these specific, painful conditions:
- She suffered from a severe case of highly contagious mange that completely ravaged her skin.
- Her bare skin was deeply wrinkled, inflamed, and left entirely exposed to the harsh elements.
- She required rigorous medical treatments and temporary isolation to safely begin her healing process.
Despite feeling so miserable, her sweet and loving personality managed to shine right through her pain. “She is absolutely beautiful, and I won’t give up on her,” I proudly promised our dedicated team.
We affectionately named her Sadie Rose, and she quickly gained a massive team of devoted cheerleaders. After a month of intense treatment, she was finally cleared to move into a loving foster home.
Her wonderful foster mom, Karen, happily bought her extra-large sweaters to keep her bare skin warm. She loves sitting outside in the gentle breeze while waiting for her new fur to grow.
Knowing she is finally a very happy dog makes every stressful moment of that rescue entirely worth it.
