When neighbors alerted animal rescuer Suzette Hall from Logan’s Legacy 29, a grueling mission began.

Hall and her rescue partner, Rosario Ortiz, dedicated themselves to bringing the dog to safety. But the street-smart pup made it incredibly difficult.

She was a master of disappearance.

“One moment she was there… the next, she was gone,” Hall recounted. She would come just close enough to give them hope, and then vanish like Houdini for days at a time.

But as the groomers began the long process of shaving away her painful, matted shell, they uncovered a surprise.

The rugged, filthy “boy” was actually an incredibly sweet, adorable little girl.

Once she was bathed and shaved, the transformation was breathtaking. The fear in her eyes began to soften, replaced by the profound relief of a body that was finally free from pain.

Hall gave her the name Reject. It is a striking name, chosen deliberately to symbolize the harsh reality of her past and to contrast with the overflowing love in her future.

The days of dodging trucks and hiding in abandoned buildings are over forever. Reject is now surrounded by affection and praise, waiting patiently for a forever family that will never let her down.
