Her fur was deeply matted. Her body was worn down from the harsh realities of living on the streets.

Yet, she didn’t act like a typical stray.

She wasn’t sniffing the ground for scraps of food. She didn’t cower or run when someone stepped outside. Instead, she locked eyes with a rescuer with an intense, quiet focus.

It was the look of someone carrying a heavy burden.

She took a few steps down the village path, stopped, and looked back over her shoulder.

Back at the shelter, they were given soft, thick blankets and warm meals. The puppies quickly settled into a deep, peaceful sleep, no longer shivering from the morning air.
