“This little boy is actually a very rare breed — a Xoloitzcuintli, or Mexican hairless dog,” Hall shared. “It’s incredible to see one of these babies abandoned like that.”

She rushed to the neighborhood and found the terrified animal exactly where he was photographed. He was pacing restlessly around the same street corner, constantly scanning the horizon for a ghost.

The dog was clearly searching for the people who were supposed to protect him for a lifetime. Every sudden noise from the neighborhood sent him scurrying further into his protective shell.

“The poor baby was all alone, hungry, scared and so incredibly skittish,” Hall recalled. “He wouldn’t let anyone help him.”
